Example1st Amendment
- Freedom of religion, speech, assembly, press, and petition.
Example: Each person in the United States of America is allotted to their freedom also known as natural rights.
2nd Amendment
- Right to bear arms
Example: If a robber were to break into your home you have the right to protect yourself and your family.
3rd Amendment
- Restrict the quartering of troops
Example: No one is forced to let someone live in their home.
4th Amendment
- No unreasonable searches and seizures
Example: No one is allowed to search your house without a search warrant.
5th Amendment
- Right to life, liberty, and property. Due to process of law=double jeopardy, self-incrimination, and government seizure of property.
Example: Everyone has the right to what they own. No one can be trailed for the same crime twice.
6th Amendment
- Speedy public trial
Example: Someone who is accused has the right to go into trial.
7th Amendment
- Right to a fair jury trial
Example: Everyone has the right to have fair unbiased jury in court.
8th Amendment
- No cruel and unusual punishment
Example: The court has to be fair in the amount of bail, and they can not fine a high amount of money.
9th Amendment
- All rights not spelled out are "retained by the people"-your basic or natural rights
Example: Everyone in America are born with their natural rights.
10th Amendment
- Powers not given to the nation or the states, belong to the people
Example: The people are able to vote and make their decisions, the government does not rule them.
11th Amendment
- Federal courts can't force states to be sued without the state's consent.
Example: Protects states from lawsuits by other states from countries.
12th Amendment
- Election of the Vice President and president separately in electoral college.
Example: The President is elected separately form the Vice President.
13th Amendment
- Abolish slavery
Example: No one is forced to work for someone.
14th Amendment
- Citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the U.S. Also prevented states from taking people's rights away.
Example: Every person who is born in the United States is a citizen.
15th Amendment
- Everyone has the right to vote(esp. African Americans)
Example: Everyone has the right to vote without the consent of race or sex.
16th Amendment
- Income tax
Example: The government the power to tax a person's income.
17th Amendment
- The people instead of the state elects senators
Example: People are allowed to vote for senators not the state.
18th Amendment
- Prohibition
Example: Alcohol is forbidden.
19th Amendment
- Women suffrage (women have their freedom and rights)
Example: Women are able to vote.
20th Amendment
- Set election and inauguration times closer to one another
Example: All elected presidents will have to have an inauguration speech and an election speech closer together instead of months apart.
21st Amendment
- Appealed prohibition
Example: At the age of 21 you are allowed to drink and purchase alcohol legally.
22nd Amendment
- Two term limits on presidents FDR
Example: Each president elected has one term of 4 years and can only be president for 2 terms.
23rd Amendment
- Gave District of Columbia the right to vote (3 electors)
Example: Since District of Columbia is not apart of any state, it is not considered in the United States, 3 electoral votes are allowed to take place.

- Prohibits poll taxes
Example:Voters are not taxed when voting, they can vote for free.
25th Amendment
- Presidential succession
Example: If the President were to die, or become sick then the Vice President would take over.
